I must have been cavebound too long because I just heard, for the first time, the expression, "Ya dance with who brung ya."

I like that one! Have many of you heard this one before?

thanks

  1. Hah that's an oldie. It's even in the lyrics to a song from the musical Guys and Dolls: "a lady always stays with the fella she came in with/luck be a lady tonight!"

  2. Nope i haven't heard it

  3. I have heard of other variations to that, but not that one.

It has to do with loyalty in a relationship.  There was a popular song once back in the 1960s similar to that, something like "remember who brought you to the dance" or something like that in the lyrics.  It was about a woman who really did not feel committed to the guy, and so he reminded her that she had to go home with him.  The song had sad words.

  4. nope im 47 years old first time hearing that one

  5. I believe it's an older phrase - but whether it's commonly used most likely varies depending on where you live.  I've always liked it as well!

  6. It was a country song in the '90's I think it was recorded by Trishia Yearwood.

  7. Cats apartment has it right
