Only interested in hearing from people who have lived there, not visited. I think there is a big difference between the two.

I will be moving there in a few months from Hawaii. Wow, big difference I am sure. I will live there for at least one year with my husband and his sister. My family is not supportive about this choice b/c of low wages and they fear for my safety. But I will be living in Santa Isabel Tola which is near the edge, against the mountains. I think it is a good opportunity to live in another country, learn another culture and language.

  1. Im mexican. Im studying outside Mexico. I was born in Mexico City and yes theres a lot of difference between Hawaii and Mexico city.

As you know Mexico city is one of the biggest cities in the world. It has the common troubles with big cities.

According with the information you say, that adress its too far from the center, so will be difficult to you to move from one place to another, specially if you use a car, because traffic in the city tends to be chaotic, taking hours without any progress inside the traffic, almost half a day. Every automobile in the city has one day off per week, so you wont use it once a week.

Using a schedule could be useless, public transport does not get on time anywere and its too crowded all the time.

I would advice you to move to another city. Monterrey, Guadalajara, Aguascalientes

  2. I studied college in mexico city and I just loved it. Of course it's big and chaotic like the other say but it has so many good sides. Tehre are tons of museums and festivals and night clubs and parties.

I know where Tola is, actually I lived close by in a place called Ticomán. I tell you, it's not the most secure place in the city, but as long as you don't wear big jewlery and fancy fancy clothes there is no problem, I never had any in 4 years.  Around there is the instituto Politecnico Nacional, so I am sure you will meet lots of students. Traffic sucks but you get use to it, plus the subway and the metrobus are close by.

I might go back to live there in 2 months, feel free to contact me.

  3. Hey I think that the place where you will live is out side Mexico  city, just have one thing in your mind if this town is in the east side of Mexico city that is where most of the shanty towns are, there is a lot of problems with public services and it takes hours to get to Down town .... try to get  to the west side and live close to your office, the city is huge, and has the same problems that many big cities around the world...

In my own opinion either you stay in that small town outside of mexico city or else move to the city. living in the out sides of the city may cuase you to spend 3 to 5 hours of your day comuting to your job or your house.

the town of Santa Isabel might be not very pretty, but the people will be great i bet.

  4. I have 32 years old and I spent my entire life in this city, well Mexico City it's a great city if you like the museums, the culture and the fun and movement.

It's one of the biggest cities in the world, and because that reason has a lot of people living here (20 millions) it's a little chaotic, for the people who likes the silence and the relaxing life perhaps is not nice. But for people who likes the culture, the concerts, the history, this city is just amazing, you can find all the cultural offer that you could find in any european city, the exotism of a foreninger country, and here's much to do everyday.  Just keep in mind that the city it's very BIG and we have some chaos, with the traffic, polution, etc etc etc.

But i repeat, if you like go to museums, the history, go to concerts, and cultural events, you will love this place.

  5. well.. there are alot of places that are beautiful but it is dangerous if you go there it is better that you leave your valueble stuff in where ever you are staying at and if you go out i think it is better if you go with somebody

  6. Im mexican and I live there.  I like it except for 2 things:

    1 too much traffic

    2 contamination

but theres so much tings to do

  7. I'm Mexican and I loveee it. It's the best city ever !!
