I used to love drawing and painting, particularly portraits. I have a binder full of all my work, but it seems lately whenever i try to my hand at a new art project i just dont have the drive that i used to.

I'll begin a pic/painting, but but i never complete it and im worried iv'e just lost my passion, which is a shame because i always loved my art.

Is it possible that i've lost my passion completely, or could it just be a dry spell?

Id be interested to hear about anyone else who has experienced this sort of thing?

  1. I'm coming out of a dry spell now.

I think sometimes we just need time to recharge our batteries.

Personally, something in my life might change and inspire me and i'll live it for a year or two, but after a time i'll become comfortable.  Try being uncomfortable again.  Try exploring something new.  Don't worry about creating, just be who you are.  If you feel inspiration do something with it, but personally the worse thing I can do to myself is force myself to create.  Just remember who you are and find your identity.  If you don't like who you are, re-invent yourself, but do it for you.

We're all artist, but you have to choose to live like one.  Stop worrying and just be.

  2. I used to love writting poetry I would write 3 or 4 a day, however I was very depressed during this time and it was my outlet, now that I am happy I havent written in almost 4 years. So my answer is I guess it depends on your inspirations

  3. I have always loved Japanese culture, but my interest wavered after I saw how popular my interest was. I hate doing things that are popular, because I think it makes me into a follower and takes away from my individuality. However, I realized that I have much more of a wholistic love for Japan and both its traditional and modern culture (ikebana/shakuhachi anyone?), while so many people who "claim" to love Japan only do so because either they think its all about manga or anime (COMPLETELY untrue) or that's its a dreamland and they want to live there without speaking any of the language or knowing any of the culture (bad bad bad choice haha).

I have done lots of research about cultural things (and how foreigners are treated) because I am fascinated by them and I have been there twice, once during a fantastic homestay. I want to major in it in college along with international business so I am always connected to it. So no, I never lost my passion, but I have sometimes been close.

  4. I used to draw a lot, now I don't even like doing it. I just hate being caught drawing in school and everyone's all "WOW UR GEWD DRAW ME PIC PLZ." Every now and then I don't mind it in private.

  5. i got like that with everything when msn came out.. someone can just hit your soft spot at any time.. then what do you do.. it's hard to see something from start to end and really stay with it with all that going on.. it's hard.. i can't do anything anymore.. ah well *takes puff off cig* ya live ya learn i guess

  6. It could be a dry spell which if it is this could be because you are changing & will come back to it on a different level. My passion is helping people & I study alot of spiritual topics to do this. I would go to my spiritual center & feel high as a kite for a long time & then question things & need to get away. My mentors were always so positive & supportive. I have a friend in her 70's who is staying away right now. This is an important part of the process. So just move on to other things in life. Maybe the absence will eventually make the heart grow founder. If for some reason you have outgrown this for good that means there is something you are going to love even more that will enter you life is you are just open to that wonder passionate feeling. Think of what it felt like when you loved it the most & keep the feeling & you will see you will go back or you will end up getting that feeling in another way or maybe just retaining the feeling by being rather than doing. It is all in perfect divine right order.
