I did. But it was under controlled circumstances. It's a long story, but the crux of it is I was at the Scottsdale, AZ airport. Met a guy who had a stunt type biplane. He didn't fly much anymore at that time, but came out occasionally to give the plane some exercise. Can't just let 'em sit. Asked me if I've ever flown a plane - said no - and he said let's go. It was an in-line two seater. He got it up in the air and let me take over. He gave me some pointers and let me try some gentle banking and climbing. It was great. Had to detour once because I was headed near his house, and his wife thought he was at work. Flew it for about 40 minutes and then went back to the airport. He asked, "Do you want to land it?" I abruptly said NO. The plane was a radial engine - open cockpit type. It was painted up like a Confederate flag.That was a lot of fun. That was the only stick time I've ever had. The owner of the plane also owned a large kitchen appliance store. He often would recruit someone to fly with him when he exercised the plane. He didn't like going alone. And I think it was a way to pull in future customers to the store.
