Have you nodded off on a train, and woken at some distant station or siding ?

Hi Folks,

I travel some days down to London, and get the train back, only about 30 miles north.

But admittedly, after a long boozy lunch, I nodded off on the way back to Letchworth.

I woke up in a siding, with all the lights on somewhere outside Cambridge.

No staff, no driver in his compartement, no check that anyone had fallen asleep before parking the train.

I was bemused > I couldn't get out, and even if I did, I had no clue as to where I precicely was.

This is funny, to me, as I do see the funny side of things, but if that had been an old dear, stuck on an empty train, it would not be funny.

Have you had any similars ?

Bob

  1. Used to commute from San Carlos to Mountain View on CalTrain (with my bicycle)... on three different times I nodded of after long days and a few beers.

Woke once at the next stop, only a 5 mile ride home

Woke twice in San Jose (end of line)... it was the last train !! First time I took a cab home ($75), next time I got a $40 room and took the train to work in the morning.

  2. On the bus, a few years ago, I ended up at the depo! 3 mile walk home, that woke me up!

  3. That hasn't ever happened to me.

  4. i use to fall asleep all the time on the tube when i use to work in London years ago. lucky though my station was at the end of the line and i use to get woken up by the driver. i have  fallen asleep(no joke) on the back of a motorbike though.how stupid was that!!!

  5. ummmmmm

    NO!

(that's my story and I'm sticking to it)

as a fireman and a head brakeman I was only performing my duties as grade indicator and accelerometer

  6. Ever ended up in a town called Landybank at 11.30pm? Let me tell you.... bugger all going on in Ladybank. It's a tiny town south of Inverness in Scotland, I think about 8 people live there, which is just d**n creepy when you wake up and think that you've slipped off the map into this strange hermit like existence.

  7. No, not me. Never happened. Bugger it all anyway, it's the truth. And my Conductor can attest to my continuous vigilance while on duty. (By the way. That man sleeps all the time. In fact, I don't think he sleeps. I think he hibernates.)

  8. Oh yes, I have fallen asleep on platform and missed all the trains thundering through, never got to my proposed destinations.  Fallen asleep on a bus and all the others got off and I woke some 6 miles later, then had to catch bus back to find them. I have fallen asleep twice whist driving, luckily no accident, it was because I ate sandwiches , don't eat whilst driving now. Still here though.

  9. live in newport and caught train to london paddington and was meant to only get off in cardiff , but i was knackered and fell asleep and was woken up by some staff at london paddington , so scary

  10. that's quite bad, because they are supposed to check through the train once it has terminated.

I had a incident which was not as drastic as yours, i was working on train on catering when our train got terminated at Doncaster, so we headed back to home depot but we were re-routed, and were put back not into the station, but to the sidings, we had to get a taxi back to the station, then they had to pay for a taxi home for me which cost them approx £250, i bet someone got a bollocking for that costly trip

  11. Nope never
