  1. never been biting my nails..

  2. Nope.   It's like a second nature with me.

    Further, it disarms belligerents to see that I'm a nervous wreck.  Make them off guard.

    I was born old.  This habit is a self-defense mechanism.

  3. haven't that much yet... I still do the things I've done when I was still a child before, such as Indian squatting whenever I sit in a chair or desk in school or wherever... I just don't feel comfortable...

  4. i'm 13 and i've outgrown them. );

  5. i don't bite my nails nor do i have childish habits..what i have are childish attitudes like throwing tantrums and being a cry baby..i still have them up to now and it shows from time to time..

    and yeah, showing my childish shy smile..oh, i think that's under habits.

    it's not really easy to out grow them..i think its knowing how to cope with various situations that made me refrain from doing it.

  6. i still bite my nails from time to time. and i'm 35. you just keep reminding yourself not to do it. also helps if you tell your friends and family what habit you want to break so that they can tell you when you're doing it. a lot of nervous habits are those in which you never even notice that you are doing them.

  7. I have never been able to stop biting my nails and I have tried everything. I am in my 40s and bite my nails. I hope you get some good answers that may help me. I am still trying because i know that its a nasty habit.

  8. I just stopped biting my nails 2 months ago...I'm 20 years old

  9. I was never a nailbiter (nor a thumbsucker) but I do remember being a child with impish behavior.  I think I was scratcher.  Yes, yes...that's it.  I used to scratch and rub my hands vigorously when I was nervous...I still do!

  10. Not yet i am only 68  and growing up takes time

  11. It just happens, you grow out of them.

  12. you can overcome such habits if you become aware what triggers them. Its just part of an underlying problem that you might have when you are face with sudden stress. Its a reflex to comfort or soothe you basically.

    If peer pressure and social ridicule hasn't caused enough pressure for you to stop then possibly you have that habit for life. But that doesn't mean you can't lessen the behavior, you can stop nailbiting or thumbsucking in public, but i'm sure you will revert it to it once alone at home.

    If its causing infection in your nails, then please see a therapist it might be in the spectrum of an OC disorder.

    You can also try grandma's way, put chili on your nails.
