When you bought something of $200 through online shop in other countries, how much (approximately) did you pay for the import tax in the US? For example, purchase from HongKong and England. Anyone has bought online overseas?

  1. There are no magic numbers.  Any item is subject to tax, though the post office seems to overlook charging you on most items.

I've imported a $500 item from New Zealand and paid something like 5% duty on it.  However, it wasn't a clothing item.  Clothing runs MUCH higher.

  2. I have purchased several things on eBay that were shipped to me from Hong Kong or Singapore and have paid zero customs duty on them. An individual can import up to $800 worth of items per month without paying duty.
