My dad spent 4 years in Mexico in the late 60s (13-17 yrs old) because his dad got transfered to a job down there. I was asking my grandmother what it was like to raise her 3 sons in another country and then return to the USA to finish bringing them up. Can you please answer a few questions for me? I'm working on a school project for a Sociology of the Family class.

1. Which two countries have you "mothered" in? How long did you live there? How many children did you have and how old were they?

2. Did you learn the language?

3. Did you work? What did you do?

4. Why were you living in another country?

5. Was the plan to move there permanent or was it always going to be a temporary living situation?

6. Did your children attend an "American School" (My dad did), what kind of school did they go to?

7. Did you find it was hard to maintain family traditions living abroad?

8. Did you pick up new traditions there?

***I would especially like to hear from women who are 55 and younger.

  1. It sounds like an interesting project, I'm sorry you didn't get any answers. I'd try asking a general question about raising kids in another country and then, if any answerers, go into more detail with them. Good Luck!
