  1. It was good, back in the day. It likely is a bit dated now.

There is an old Andromeda Strain movie that was fairly

close to the book. (The book is short, and is a better read

    than as a movie.)

The idea is that a spacecraft brings back an alien

microorganism that seems to be universally fatal (with

a couple of puzzling exceptions). The protagonists

of the story are a team of biological scientists types, who

try to contain the bug in a super-secret government

biohazard installation called "Wildfire". The Wildfire

labs have all sorts of precautions to prevent the escape

of a deadly organism, including, as a last resort, a

nuke. There are numerous plot complications.

  2. Yes, I read it, but it has been a very long time ago. As I recall I enjoyed it. To the best of my recollection, it is a science fiction story about an out break of an experimental biological warfare agent. Kind of spooky and scary.

  3. No.

  4. I have included a link the the film (yours was to the mini series) and to the book.

I do know the original 70's film follows the book very closely. I suspect the mini-series will take more liberties with making it more updated for action and possibly expand story lines for a possible TV series.

In simple terms it about an alien contact (on the level of bacteria) being deadly to mankind.

NASA has actually had protocols in place for a number of years because of this possibility and is part of why Astronauts are quarantined (and for their own health concerns) when returning from space.

  5. Yes, that's one of Michael Crichton's early works. He's the same one who wrote the Jurassic Park novels that the movies were based on. He's a great writer. You already have the Wiki link so you know what basic plot line is. The book is great. There is no parapsychological content though. The microbe is theorized to be alien in nature, so perhaps it's paranormal.

  6. The book and the movie are classics. If you are interested in that genre then please also read "On The Beach".

  7. Yes,I have. It's already been made into a theatrical movie.I can recommend it.
