I did read The Awakening in my high school Senior English class.  I hope I'm not spoiling this for you...yes, Edna does die.  As the first answerer said, Edna commits suicide - she drowns herself.  Throughout the whole book Edna is searching for a sense of happiness and freedom as a woman.  I remember my class having a discussion about Edna's suicide, and I remember us discussing how Edna's suicide was sort of her last act in her search for freedom - it was as if Edna drowned herself because that would truly give her freedom.  But of course that is how my teacher interpreted the ending, and I do agree with that interpretation, but not everyone will necessarily interpret it as such...
