Question:

Have you renewed your passport in the last few months?

I am planning a trip and need to concurrently renew my passport. It is still valid till the end of the month, but many countries don't like to see foreigners come in with expiring passports. I am flexible on dates, but just trying to decide if I submit my application now, will I get it in four weeks as their website promises, as I want to get my ticket in place in the meantime. I know there was a crunch months ago, but I wondered if those recently applying have found they are caught up yet. Last time I renewed, it was fast, like 10 days, with routine processing.

  1. Actually for most countries your passport must be valid at least for 3 months after the day you return, some other countries require 6 months.

Make sure you apply for your passport and pay the expedite service and bug bug bug... they will give you a number and call them day and night until they send your passport. Renewals take way less time than 1st time passports

i got my daughter passports in about 3 weeks but i was calling every single day and night to find out the status.

if you're in Los Angeles or wherever that is a passport central you can actually show up to renew your passport.

OR you can pay one of those websites like rushmypassport.com and they will do it for you.

    good luck!

  2. Depends which country you're from. If you're in the UK then you can get it in a few days or even collect it.

  3. well mine took 3 weeks but you shouldn't count on their "promises"

you can get it expidited. i costs a bit extra but you should def have it in time.

  4. I renewed mine in January of this year and it took less than a week and I did it "regular," not expedited.

You can only go to the offices to renew in person if you are leaving in less than two weeks. You must present your confirmed itinerary/tickets. The offices are regional, so depending on where you live you may have to travel. I know for a fact there are offices in L.A. and Philadelphia. I'm guessing NYC, San Francisco, and Chicago probably have office too.

And like another poster said, you can't travel on an expiring passport. I believe the cut-off is generally six months. You'll get stopped at immigration and not allowed into the country  (you want to travel to).

  5. My entire family of 4 got new passports in 9 days from date of sending application in.  At the time the website also said 4 weeks processing time so I would think a renewal would be quicker than a new application.
