  1. Oh yes, I remember being in Northern California and Lake Tahoe many many years ago, they were BEAUTIFUL!  If you ever get a chance to go to Yosemity California it will be a trip you will never forget!

  2. Living in sunny California since infancy,  I've had several encounters with the Big Redwoods. Along the California coast Highway 1, driving through a forest of Redwoods  is quite a sight, and very peaceful I think. When driving through the redwood coast, noon is sbout the only time sunshine hits the road, the rest of the drive you pass through shadows cast from the redwood trees. I imagine that Hanzel & Gretel  wandered this type of dark forest once upon a time.

The most impressive of the Giants I've seen are found in Yosemite national park. I grew up in a small town just 20 minutes from the southern gate to the park on highway 41.  Go through the gate, make a right turn and you're in the company of the Giants in minutes. Now days park authorities only let tourist shuttles go see the trees in small groups. Once there I've noticed how well park authorities protect the trees by not allowing any more people walk at the base of the trees. The forest sounds seem softened by the dense foliage. People seem to hold the surrounding area in some sort of reverence by whispering in jaw dropping amazement. You can see where some of the Giant Redwoods have been damaged by raging forest fires, only to escape destruction because of the nature of the thick bark protecting the giant trees. For such a massive tree, the pine cones are about the size of an Apricot. The Giant Redwoods seem to speak to you about the countless generations that have passed since they first sprouted on the forest floor. Standing near the base of the Giant Redwood, you tip your head back trying to see the top and it is easy to fall backwards from the dizzy altitude where the upper braches soak up the sunshine.

Giant Redwoods........they definately qualify as one of the wonders of the world!
