Olympic photo controversy

An image of the Spanish basketball team has emerged that appears racist toward the Chinese. In the photo the team is shown pulling their faces to slant their eyes, in an ad taken before the team left for China.

  1. Sportsmanship?  There is no question that photo was racist and it behooves me why a coach would allow such behavior.  They say a picture is worth a thousand words.

As an American Japanese, I've had years of being exposed to such ridicule.  In order to deflect, I would try to open my eyes as big as possible, except it just looked bug eyed.  At a period of my life, I was ashamed to have Asian eyes, but later realized it's not the size or shape of eyes, but what others see in them.

  2. Yes. It appears to be a really, really bad attempt at a humorous ad.

"Spain's basketball team is sponsored by Li-Ning Footwear, a Chinese company..."

Incredible stupidity on the company's part to OK this.

A link below for those who haven't seen it.

  3. Yes i seen this picture and I think it was wrong they did this. come on their is so much hate in this world all ready can't we just be nice

  4. Its sickening

  5. Uhm... are you all just crazy or blind? They're just doing a sort of stupid tribute to their sponsor and you're all discussing about them being racist or arrogant?

(yeah and killing a spaniard is the same as slating your eyes, sure... ¬¬ )

It's an official picture, for god's sake. That doesn't make a player racist nor arrogant if their sponsor tells them to pose like that.

You do like good old useless controversy...
