  1. Hey,

Studying abroad is great! Before you can decide where your really want to go, you should write down a few places and decide how long you wish to stay there. Remember, some of the most popular countries such as France, Italy, Spain, Germany etc. have language requirements. You need to pass a language proficency test in-order to study at most places, as the courses are taught in the country's native tongue. Once you begin narrowing down places, decide where or what have you always wanted to see.

My sister studied abroad in France and had a great time. She lived with our grandmother so she had a place to stay and speaks the language quite well. She got to visit the great attractions such as the Effiel Tower, Lourve, Arc de Triumph, etc. She even traveled down to Portugal and Spain and spent time on the beaches there. She did however get homesick and wanted to come back home (U.S.) towards the end of her trip.

I'm currently obtaining my Master's Degree in London and I'm having a ball of a time, lol. I share a flat (apt.) with 5 people from around the world and we go out every other night to pubs and get "lagered", that's the British term for wasted, eating out at restaurants - been to the pricy as heck Gordon Ramsay place, movies, site seeing and thensome. When I'm alone, I like getting lost in London and just looking around in museums, attractions like the London Eye, Tower of London, Big Ben, Parliament, and whatever else. Since London is the biggest city in Europe, it's real cheap to travel to Paris and Amsterdam (which I've done also!!). There I've seen the same stuff as my sister did and in Amsterdam i got to walk around the risque red light district and so forth.

Some suggestions would be just plan ahead. There is a lot of paperwork and money involved in getting a study abroad trip going. Make sure you save, save, save!! I had a professor in college who always said, "never let your passport expire".

  2. For me, when I decide to stay away from home, it was thrilling.

A lot of things surprised me when I had just arrived in the U.S. For example, the first time I came to the U.S., I was really surprised by the people. They were friendly and were always ready to help you. I have never met such people who have such good relations with you. For me as an Indonesian, I think that people in my country are more reserved; they can’t come to you and just ask if you need help.

The second thing that really shocked me was the street that is clean all the time. Back in my country, there is a lot of different garbage, which lies in the street. Nobody tries to take it away, and every day the streets become more and more dirty.

The first time I came here, I felt that America is a foreign country, but now, I feel like I am home. I enjoy every moment here.

  3. Well, I studied abroad in Taiwan in grade 6. It was REALLY challenging because I didn't know how to speak Mandarin or know anything about their culture. It was a really great experience. I met so many interesting people and learned so much. I would go back if I could and actually stayed there. I came back home a year later. :(

If your thinking about studing abroad, you should try it. It's a really cool experience. Not everybody gets to study abroad!

    :]
