My husband has suffered from bipolar / depression. He went off his meds (tegretol) about a year ago and was completly fine and normal for that year. Then about a month ago he started getting really depressed again and started taking Tegretol again. He almost seems worse now, he is always tired and taking naps and sleeping long hours, in the mornings before he has taken his medicine and in the evening when they wear off he gets extremely mean and says things he would never normally say and even when the drug is active he still acts depressed and doesn't see the meaning of life. I'm wondering if he should be on this drug and I'm wondering weather he would benefit more from an SSRI? Have you taken it? What was your experience?
