My boyfriend wants to take his laptop on holiday and on the Manchester Airport site it says they are removed from hand luggage and screened seperately. What is the process? Does it take long or is it just as long as when you put your bags through the machine thing?

  1. It's simple and smooth, generally. Sometimes they ask you to turn it on, that's why I usually put it in standby and turn if off once I got at the my gate.

  2. They are screened the same as everything else, I've taken laptops on loads of flights in many countries including the UK.....and even Manchester.

  3. why spend money on a laptop when you can get it for free? just go to this site and complete a few quick tasks and they'll send you a sony vaio laptop at no charge!

  4. It's easy you just remove it from the bag and put the bag and laptop through the machine separately. It doesn't take any longer than screening normal hand luggage.

You will need to check how much hand luggage you are allowed to take.  When I flew with Virgin in Feb their website said you could take a laptop or camera in addition to one piece of hand luggage, but when we arrived at the airport it was one item only, so we ended up unpacking and repacking bags at the airport.

  5. I took mine on as hand luggage and when I went through security was asked to open it not put it through the scanner.

    simple

  6. Place your laptop in the first bin you put on the belt of the X-ray machine. You should put your laptop bag in front of it.

Mark your laptop!  Put a sticker on it.  I know people hate to do this. But you should identify your laptop in such a way that you can quickly identify it.   DO NOT TAPE YOUR BUSINESS CARD TO YOUR LAPTOP.  Do not become a target by letting potential laptop thieves know just how valuable your laptop may be.

If you lose your laptop contact the  airport authorities  immediately. Call the airport. Take action. I bet in 99% of the cases you can get it back.

  7. They just take it out of its bag and open it up to look in it. I think its because the machines can't see whats inside it (between the screen and the keyboard when its closed, if you get me?) So they have to open it to check for things that aren't allowed!

It doesn't take long at all, I always have mine with me!! :)
