Have you travelled to Jamaica? I need advice from someone who is familiar with the area!!!?

I am going to Jamaica for two weeks in July, and want as much advice as possible from people who have been there before. We are flying in and out of Montego Bay, but definitely want to travel as much as we can. We would ideally like to go around the whole island, and check out places like Kingston and Negril, but we're not sure if two weeks is enough time.

Do you have any suggestions for us? I would love to see the itenary of somebody who has been there for a similar amount of time, if at all possible.

July is still fairly early in the hurricane season, so hopefully you will have some nice weather while you're there.

Make sure to hit:

Blue Mountains (coffee anyone?)

Mandeville (milk river baths)

Treasure Beach (quiet south coast beaches)

Boston (home of the original Jerk pork)

Port Antonio (home of the real Blue Lagoon)

Study up on your domino-playing strategies.  It is a major pastime.

There is a difference between a tourist cab and a locals cab (the cabbies will assume you're wanting the first if you're obviously a tourist).  If you're a tourist, you'll most likely find yourself with a chartered cab and $15US in the hole at the end of it.  If you ride like a local, you can take the cab across town for ~$0.50US, but you'll be sharing the car with 10 people.  Choose your poison! :D

lol, I live in Jamaica, and two weeks is definitely enough time to see from Kingston to Montego bay. It takes about four hours to travel the entire length of the island. You should make plans to sightsee as much as possible with your travel agency or tour guide. Negril is the shiznit btw lol

Alot of pretty awesome places for tourists are:

Dunns River Falls and Green Grotto Cave  in St. Ann.

Rose Hall Great House in Montego bay  <-haunted btw ^^

Cockpit Country in trelawny is incredible  <-alot of rafting here

I've been to Jamaica three times but always stayed at a resort.  Once to Ocho Rios and twice to Negril.  Flew in/out of Montego Bay.  My trip to Ocho Rios included a drive to Port Antonio for the day.  We rafted down the river which was really cool.  We also stopped in a lot of the small towns along the way.  Saw some beautiful churches and the views are spectactular since the entire road is along the coast.  

I've also gone to Dunn's River Falls.  It's very touristy so if you are trying to avoid the tourist traps stay away!  Two weeks might be enough to check out the whole island and get in quality time!  Do some research on the areas you really want to visit - visit Trip Advisor for additional info on what to see and what to avoid.  Jamaica is beautiful so enjoy!!

I was in Jamaica for 2 weeks in December and came back after the new year. Two weeks in definitely alot of time to visit. I stayed with my husbands family, so we was like in the central of Jamaica. We flew in and out of Kingston. We did get to go from Kingston to Negril. Jamaica is a little Paradise and I am happy I went. When you go, I hope you are flying on Air Jamaica. They have such nice service.

There are so much to do there, so let me give you some advice on what I did.

Blue Mountain--got to get the coffee

Dunn River Falls-- a tourist attraction. I did not climb the falls, I just swam in the ocean. It is a very nice park.

Bob Marley museum-- Love Bob!

Kingston-- toured the capital, stay away from the dungle and do not go at night.

Old harbour-- family lives there, nice history

Nigirl-- went to the beach

Stayed with family some days and relaxed. I hope you have a wonderful time.

Definetly DON'T go around the whole island lol...

not everywhere in jamaica is friendly.

Just stay in montego bay, negril, or places where tourist or visitors are most likely to enjoy themselfs and have a good time (stay in places where even after 10yrs from now you'll still be happy to visit again)

Stay away from downtown places like tivoli garden, jungle, etc... (unless you want to get rob or get the feeling that your being threatened).

Just try to enjoy yourself and make the moment last.
