Have you used Anti-depressants? Are the side effects worth using them?

I have OCD and have been told to go on medication. I wanted to research first. It seems to me that more people are miserable on the meds from the side effects than anything.

I want to know what your experiences with them are. I don't want to s***w things up with gaining weight and losing my s*x drive. I also don't want to lose sleep.

  1. Absolutely worth it.  Depending on your situation, you might only need them for a period of time, and not your whole life.  They can help so much, and the side effects are mild, in my opinion.  The first 3 weeks you are on the medication you might feel a little bit groggy, be more thirsty than usual, and perhaps have mild upset stomach.  But most of it goes away after 2-3 weeks and you'll start to feel so much better.

  2. I used Prozac for a while. I understand it worked great for some people, but while it did no help for me, if I took it while stressed out, my throat would get constricted and it was hard for me to breathe for me for a while.

I hope you have better luck.

  3. If you are feeling badly enough, the possible side effects are worth a try.

Just because there are side effects, doesn't mean you are going to notice them.  Side effects can go away after you first start taking a medication.   Try to think about the possibility of you feeling better instead of focusing on the side effects.  Good Luck.
