  1. As if dogs are stinkingly-flatuent enough, you want to add garlic?

    Good Grief!

  2. NO !!! Because Onions and Garlic (raw, cooked, or powder) contain sulfoxides and disulfides, which can damage red blood cells and cause anemia. Cats are more susceptible than dogs. Garlic is less toxic than onions.

Talk to your Vet and ask for Frontline or K9 Advantix.  Your Vet will make the best recommendation for your dog.

  3. It does NOT work.  Dogs shouldn't have garlic.  Get some Frontline, Advantage, Revolution, etc.  You would have to feed a dog MASSIVE doses of garlic to repel fleas, and those amounts would be damaging to the dog.  Get the dog on something from the vet to prevent fleas, and let the vet guide you in how to rid your dog, home, and yard of them.

  4. I have never fed my dogs garlic because, although it's been touted as getting rid of fleas - I heard dogs can't tolerate it and it is toxic to dogs as well as:

    macadamia nuts

    onion

    grapes

    raisins

    chocolate

    xiliyol (fake sugar)

Better just to use the topical stuff like "advantage" or "program".

  5. i use to feed my dogs garlic.  they were outside a lot on the farm.  they never had fleas or ticks.  also used penney royal on them.

  6. Never give a dog garlic. EVER! it is toxic to dogs.!!!!!!

    just use K9 advantix.

  7. I was part of some extensive field trials for garlic in horses in the 80's .. and YES it does work to repel all kinds of biting insects, but it's not a 100% fix, and other methods need to be used also...

However, there are a couple of drawbacks that you may need to be aware of.. Dogs usually don't tolerate the Alium (garlic and onion) family too well, in fact I've heard that the oriental breeds can suffer badly after eating garlic.. so I'd make a very quick call to your local vet to see if that may be a problem for your dog..

Next one is obviously the breath...  a dog tends to be more "in your face" than a horse, and it can be quite unpleasant to have a garlicky animal trying to say hello to you... so be careful how much you feed, and how close you get to your buddy..

I wish you the best, fleas are no fun, and I hope you get them on the run soon...

(oh, you might try using Eucalyptus oil on the dog... it's known for irritating those nasty dog jockeys, and could drive them away for good!!)

    Hope that helps.

  8. I feed my dog a little bit of garlic occasionally, mixed in with some of her food (she's on a raw diet).  Not to get rid of fleas though.  Although she doesn't have any.  It doesn't seem to hurt her, and if their breath reeks of garlic, I'd say you're probably feeding them too much.

Some people say garlic is bad for dogs, but you'd be surprised how many dog treats have garlic in them.

  9. no we buy frontline.

  10. I've read several articles about garlic being a flea preventive and also articles stating that healthy dogs don't have fleas. I had a flea infestation in my house over 20 years ago and it's not something I ever want to go through again. I have healthy dogs but use frontline because I don't want to experiment and run the risk of fleas in the house.
