  1. The National Air and Space Museum is the most popular, and I like it very much, but my very favorite is the Arthur M. Sackler Gallery, which has an outstanding collection of Asian art.  Here is a listing of the museums within the Smithsonian Institution:

    (Within Washington DC)

Anacostia Community Museum (national history and culture of African Americans)

Arthur M. Sackler Gallery (Asian art)

Arts and Industries Building (theoretically, arts and industries, but most of its exhibits have been moved to other museums, and the building is in extremely bad repair)

Freer Gallery of Art (East Asian and some American art)

Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden (contemporary and modern art)

National Air and Space Museum (aircraft and spacecraft)

National Museum of African American History and Culture (a planned museum demonstrating the African American contribution to American history)

    National Museum of African Art

National Museum of American History (formerly called the National Museum of History and Technology, currently closed for renovations and planned to reopen in the Summer of 2008)

National Museum of the American Indian

National Museum of Natural History (biology, geology and prehistoric history)

National Portrait Gallery (images, largely paintings, of famous American individuals)

National Postal Museum (the history of the United States Postal Service)

    S. Dillon Ripley Center (international gallery and offices of the Smithsonian Contributing Membership)

Smithsonian American Art Museum (American art, sharing the same building as the National Portrait Gallery)

Smithsonian Institution Building (administration offices and information center)

Smithsonian National Zoological Park (the National Zoo)

    (In New York, New York)

Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum (design history and contemporary design)

National Museum of the American Indian's George Gustave Heye Center (art and artifacts by and about the American Indian)

    (In Chantilly, Virginia)

National Air and Space Museum's Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center (additional air and space displays)

Many other museums are affiliated with the Smithsonian Institution.

The National Gallery of Art (the West [original] and the East Galleries) is under separate administration and is extraordinarily good.  I am much more fond of the West Building, which houses most of the permanent collection, but the East Gallery, beyond its permanent collection, is also used for some remarkable visiting exhibitions.

  2. I liked them all. I spent a day in each museun; sometimes half a day.

    Art was the best .

The one about Air and space too.
