Question:

Haven't had a pancreatitis attack in 9 months now, wondering if it'd be okay to drink occasionally again?

I had an attack of acute pancreatitis in December of 2007, and I haven't had an attack since. Since then, I've rarely drank anything, except for a little wine here and there (literally maybe only 1 glass of wine total in the past 9 months). I was recently in Europe for a few weeks with my parents, and my dad offered me beer on several occasions, in which I turned down all of them. He told me that my pancreas is healed by now and that I'm not going to get pancreatitis by drinking in moderation, meaning only drinking one beer every now and then, and that I can drink as long as I don't go overboard with it.

What do you guys think? Given the amount of time that has passed without an attack, do you think it would be acceptable to drink a beer every now and then? Definitely not hard liquor but what about a beer or a glass of wine?

  1. DO Not listen to your dad!! My Husband had an attack about a year ago came out of the hospital after a week and stayed sober for two weeks. HE then starting drinking again and about a year later he got another attack severe, had to call 911 (also he layed in bed alot of days during the year sick on and off from stomach pains) Anyway he has been in the hospital for 2 weeks with nothing to drink or eat and may be there for a lot longer. Once you get pancreatitis your body cannot process alcohol anymore. Do not listen to anyone stay sober and heahlty. Its not worth it and will kill you!!
