Having 'theme' names for your children?

Do you think that naming your children after a theme is neat and different or just plain silly? Examples: Faith, Hope, and Charity or Gabriel, Michael and Raphael (after the angels of the bible) etc....?

  1. I think it depends on the theme, there are some cheesy ones but as long as it's subtle then I think you could get away with it. Better still would be the theme the middle names, that way children can feel more individual than just a pretty little set.

  2. I think it's pretty cool if the names/connection is so obscure that only a few people would realize why your kids are named that. Like Hypatia and Diotima (two ancient female Greek philosophers) or Santiago and Ephesia (two cities the parents travelled to).

Otherwise, Faith, Hope and Charity sounds very 1980s. The angels of the bible is a cool idea.

I'm being reminded of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, all being named after renaissance artists...

  3. I think that it is really silly to be honest with you.

I don't like the idea at all.

  4. I think it's stupid.  Some idiot posted on here wanting to name her kids after the United States!  She had Georgia and was expecting babies, wanting to name them Maryland and Dakota!

I think some are okay, maybe the religious names or using family names for tradition.  But going by letters of the alphabet, naming your kids after Star Wars characters, or cars, or trees, is retarded!

Oh, and I absolutely HATE rhyming twins!  My dead twin's name was Marika, and I'm Zalika..........man that makes me mad.

  5. it really depends on the theme...it can sound cool if done right...I think the biblical theme is silly, but maybe if named after great scientists or artists or something...

  6. It's ridiculous.  They're human beings, not a school of pet fish.

  7. I think it's annoying, personally.  My daughter's best friends (who are sisters) are Summer Rose and Autumn Rain.  Puh-leaze.

  8. My reaction is that it's silly.

If it isn't too noticeable to an outsider (ie, the angels of the bible) then I supposed I'm fine with it.

But it's your choice. Lots of times people use the theme of their heritage, so I guess anything is fine.

  9. I think it is a risk, because of you have girls named Faith and Hope, then have a boy, he might think you wished he was a girl. I can see naming kids by the alphabet because you can work it for either gender, but gender specific themes are more complicated unless you are naming multiple birth babies such as triplets.

  10. Hokey, hokey, and hokey if it is like 5 kids with same letter. Stupid if its siblings that rhyme. REALLY stupid if they are all emotions, or names from nature. I think it is okay though if they are all names of the same origin (all Irish, or german names for example).

  11. I'm not really too into that, unless it's a coincidence that you just like two names that can be grouped together.

  12. Sometimes it's okay, but other times it's a little odd. There is a family who goes to my church, and all the kids and even the parents have the initials "J. J." That's a little different.

My old neighbors had three boys, and they all had the same middle name. I thought that was kinda cool because there was a story behind it. Otherwise, it would be sorta strange.

  13. I love the idea of naming kids after a theme. Be careful that you don't go over board. Be sure that they are at least a little different. Start with different letters, describe different things, etc. Another neat thing to do is have names that start with the same letter.

  14. I think if it is subtle it can be cool but if it is blatantly obvious e.g Daisy, Rosie and Lily, it can look a little trashy and will seem silly when the kids are adults.

  15. It just depends on the theme, but I think its on the silly side.

  16. Personally, I kinda think it's tacky. At first you'd think it's cute but after meeting some kids who had to put up with this they were so embarassed! Even though the names are cute, it's not really worth it.

  17. I dont like when people do that. When I have kids, they're all going to have names that dont even start with the same letter. People are all different. Just because they're related doesnt mean they're the same.

  18. I probably woundn't do it, but I think it's actually pretty rad.

I had some friend and their parents named them

Venus, Mercury for the girls, and Titan for for guy

and they all seemed normal to us, honestly you get use to anything

  19. Well I know of people having themed middle names which works alot better unless you are going with Bible names. In that case, people will just think you are religious
