Here's what its doing. It seems as if something is draining the battery over night. In the morning i can jump start it and then it will run fine all day. I put a new battery in and it quit doing that. But its doing it again. If the car sits for a while not turned on the battery drains again, and then i have to jump start it. I had the truck put on diagnostic at Firestone but the machine said everything was fine and it didn't detect anything. PLEASE SOMEONE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What could it be??

  1. could be a bad interior light but usually it is because someone put after market stereo equipment in it and did not wire it right.have someone disconnect the battery if there is a drain then when u touch the cable to the post u get a little spark if so start pulling the fuses 1 at a time then touch the cable to the battery eventually when u pull the right fuse then you won't get spark and you will know what if draining the battery

  2. These are not easy to find. What you have here is a battery draw. The acceptable spec for GM is around 25 mA, but that is still on the high side. Most of these will not draw anymore than 10 mA when the computers power down. If you don't have an accurate ahmmeter and especially if you don't know how to use one, it's better to take it to someone who does. Have a close inspection of all interior lights and any aftermarket accessories you have installed. The usual cause for these things is an interior light, glove box light, sunshade mirror light, or things along that line left on or faulty.

  3. I would've said change the battery but you already did that, so my best guess would be to unplug any accessories you got there.

Whether the car is idle or running, all accessories inside are running on the battery, the only difference is, when the engine is running, the dynamo is operating, and the battery is charging at the same time as the peripherals (that includes headlights, city lights, cabin lights + any other perifiral installed there) are draining power.

so unplug everything and see if the problem persists.

If that doesn't help you might be in some serious trouble, because then you would know that some wiring in the car has "shorted" and you would have to pull the whole cabin apart to find those wires.

  4. Does your horn work? If not, chances are the horn relay is allways on even when the horns don't sound anymore because of cut wires to them. My '89 ran down a good battery in three days because of this overlooked problem. The horn button was shorted 'on' -continiously powering the relay reguardless of the ignition key position.
