Having a B-day where the proceeds go to charity. Any ideas?

It will be my 16th in May and I am renting a pavillion at a state park, the general idea is that I'll play music (hopefully to entice some dancing) and serve some food and instead of gifts people donate to a charity I choose.

I haven't picked a charity yet, but do you know of any that might help out with this, like by supplying me with information that I can present or distribute for their cause.

Also any entertainment ideas?

  1. I had a birthday party (won't tell you how old ;-) where the guests brought canned/boxed food in lieu of gifts.  We stacked it all up and one side of the room so everyone could see the results.  Then donated it all to a local homeless shelter.  More fun than just collecting checks (not that there is anything wrong with that).

There are a number of volunteer "matchup" organizations that could help you find projects in your area.   Check out:

  2. Sure. Simply write to the charity of your choice, and tell them what you are doing. They will be more than happy to provide you with brochures. Any charity organization will do this.

  3. You might want to try to call some of the local hospitals in your area. They could put you in touch with charities. Also, looking in your local phone book might help out too.

Also, be sure to inform everyone attending of your wish for no gifts but rather donating to a charity.

One good charity that comes to miond is if your area has a homeless shelter, you might want to contact them and see if they would be willing to accept donations from you. The more people try to help homeless organizations will in the end be able to help those homeless & get them the assistance they need.

  4. First off Happy Birthday. :-)

I am helping the Children's Cancer Research Fund to raise funds to further the research for children with cancer during one of their fundraisers between January 8th and April 10th, 2008. I have donated my time & money to help with this cause. I am looking ideas to help raise funds for this non-profit charity. I am also looking for caring individuals to assist the children with cancer to reach a goal of finding a cure. However, this can't happen without the support of caring individuals like yourself. If you wish you can donate by going to:

Please also let all your friends know about this fundraiser, because every donation goes directly to the Children's Cancer Research Fund and can help save thousands of lives.

If you wish, you can email me at: jthorpefl@msn.com

    Thank you.

  5. Animal Shelter  They always have a list of items they need for the pets.

  6. I agree with BeHonest, you must find a cause that you are passionate about or you won't be able to convey the message to your friends and family.

If you went with an African theme, you could play lots of African drum music, zebra prints, wild animal theme etc.

Build the Future USA helps the poor in South Africa by planting gardens for them which provides vitamin enriched, fresh vegetables that they wouldn't have access to otherwise.  You can check out the website at www.buildthefutureusa.com

100% of your donations will go to helping the poor because we (my husband and I) cover all wire transfer and banking fees to get the money from the US to South Africa.  That's part of our mission to help the poor in South Africa.

Good luck on your party and I hope you have a wonderful birthday!

  7. Find a cause that you feel passionate about and then contact their local headquarters, when they hear what you are doing I am sure that they will supply you with any and all information that you need.  You are wise beyond your years for doing something like this!
