Having a Civil Ceremony.?

I just got engaged and we are planning to have a civil ceremony And, a reception or party afterwards. Usually when I think of that I'm thinking just standing there and saying wedding vows. Do they allow us to have a wedding party. I know they allow up to 8 people to invite. But, I was wondering if I'll be able to walk down to a wedding song. and carry some flowers. I would like to send out invitations and have a nice wedding cake for the party. Any suggestions on how I should do this. We have been pre approved online to sign our marriage license we haven't done yet. But we have 60 days until I would need to marry.

  1. This highly depends on where you would like to have your mini ceremony. Will this be at the court house, an officiant's home, your home, a park, etc.? It sounds like it will be at the court house. In that case since you can only invite 8 people, you can include those people in your wedding party. Have one or two of your closest friends or family members stand up there with you.

I am sure they will let you do anything that is reasonable. I would speak with the officiant and see if you could bring along an iPod or a small CD player for music. I imagine they may put restrictions on decorations, but I am sure they wouldn't have a problem with you carrying flowers.

In all honesty, it depends on where you are looking to have your ceremony. Speak with your local courthouse or officiant and get the scoop! Maybe after the ceremony you could go to someones house and have cake, ho rs doeuvres, and music to celebrate and unwind!

I just did my own invitations too! I bought a box of them at Michael's Craft Store and printed them up on my own computer and dressed them up with pretty stamps.

    Good luck and congrats!!

  2. sorry i dont honestly know ...but whats your reasoning in waniting a civil ceremony? if its because of cost or not being religious enough to do it in a church or something what about haveing a close friend or family member marry you we did this for our wedding and it made it that much more personal knowing that a friend married us i belive all they have to do is go to the town hall and apply it might cost like 20 dollars but it will allow them to legally do your ceromony on such and such a date just a one time time thing but other from that i imagine they wouldnt mind if you carried flowers had a wedding song ect as long as you brought the stuff because they may not have it and as long as you pick a venue for after the wedding have all the cake and family festivities you want local elks lodges are cheap or a familys backyard and parks are free...good luck and congratulations
