ok ladies i have a huge problem.

i am due to give birth to my 1st baby on sept 25 2008

the problem is i live in the Dominican republic with my hubby we do not have residency we work here and pay taxes but do not have residency we pay a tourist fee monthly

my hubby is from Puerto Rico with united states residency and me i am from Canada with of course Canadian residency

so if i was to have my baby here in the Dominican republic would the baby have duel residency with Canada USA and Dominican republic or only Dominican residency???

would it be hard or almost imposable to get the baby out of Dominican republic if we wanted to move to Canada or the USA?

  1. I agree with Romantic. So after having the baby you go and register him/her in the embassy and if you any doubts check the USA website. I had something similar.

    http://www.usemb.gov.do/

    Good luck!!

    Congrats!!!

  2. Your baby will actual be entitled to citizenship in three countries.  Dominican Republic as he/she was born there and also US and Canada as the parents have citizenship in these countries.  After the child is born, take a copy of the birth certificate to both the US and Canadian embassies and file for citizenship for the child.  You should not experience and problems as he is already both American and Canadian by decent (parents born in these countries),

  3. hon, you need to contact the local gov for that information.  find out how that works...even contact one of the embassy's there to get more accurate information.  Good Luck.

  4. The way it works is that after you give birth you Go to The US Embassy in Santo Domingo and ask for a Birth certificate.Since your Hubby is from Puerto rico (US citizen) your child would be entitled to US citizenship too.The process takes about 6-8 weeks to complete if all the paper work is in order..and since Both you and the father are together you shouldnt have any issues taking the baby out of the country. The Child would also be entitled to Dominican citizenship if he wanted to

    Best of luck
