Why?

Let's include late models of prop planes -> 109K, Ta152, continue through the production jets and rocket fighters, to limited production or even prototypes...

Mistel allowed, too, and piloted V1 for those who favor shooting star style career.

  1. Quite sadistic, arent you???

It is hard to choose from these options. I'd go for the Ta-152, being a refinement of an excellent design. The safety at altitude is a welcome comfort and its sprint speed would allow me to disengage from combat when things are not going my way.

  2. As for aircraft that are still flying (at least in replica), I'd definitely go for the Me-262. Especially if some original airframes magically surface. There's just something irresistable about how early jets like the 262 changed warfare and it would certainly be an exclusive group of pilots to join. I think it would be an incredible experience to pilot such a historic and rare plane.

If I could be a little fantasitic and go for one that isn't actually flying anymore, I'd pick the Horten IX (also designated Gotha 229) jet powered flying wing. The test pilots who flew the prototype said that it was quite stable and handled comparably with a normal plane. Even if doubts about its handling hold true, it would be awesome to fly that plane, even if it wasn't exactly fun. Though it some say it wasn't entirely practical for its time, the Horten IX is one of my all time favorites. Here's a set of plan drawings:

  3. The ME-109 was an awsome plane.  It was just as great as teh P-51 if not better.  I really just want to shoot the nose cannon.  The ME-262 was cool because of what it was, but it was actually a piece of c**p plane.  Because of the way the engienes were designed you could not make any rapid thottle movements or they would have compressor stall.  The recent rebuilds are kind of cool though.  They use P&W engines.

  4. ME262 if I could get one re-engined with modern turbojets. Somehow a 25 hour TBO on an engine is not very good confidence builder.

If not, just get me to an Me-109

  5. The FW-190 was the closest thing to a perfect fighter they had, and since I'm not a great pilot (I'm a good enough pilot to know I'm not a great pilot, OK?), I'd like to fly that baby.

Much better on the ground than a -109, plenty fast, best roll rate of the War, good high-altitude performance, single-lever throttle/prop control, decent-size cockpit, great payload capability -- man, what else would you want in a single-seater?

  6. maybe the stuka dive bomber, I don't know if their are any remaining actual stukas that are airworthy. I've sen a few mock ups but not the real McCoy.

  7. Probably in this order:

    1- Go229

2- Me262, if I win the lottery I plan to buy one of the replicas being built

    3- He 162

    4- Ta152
