Question:

Having a hard time falling asleep?

I had a baby, and now she's 7 weeks old and is sleeping great through the night! But, now I'm back to work, and need to get up early, but I can't fall asleep. I think I'm still used to getting up and anticipating waking up with the baby. It takes me hours to fall asleep, and then I wake up somewhere in the middle, and have a hard time going back to sleep. I toss and turn, and my brain is racing with things I need to do, and just various things. I'm not depressed...but I really need to get a good night's rest, or else I'm going to get sick! I tried taking Valerian root, but it's not really doing anything for me. Does anyone have any other suggestion for some sort of sleep aid pills or something?

  1. tryptophan is a good way to get some sleep

it is in pumpkin seeds and turkey

also valerian can have the oppisite affect in some people but this is again reversed when hops are added

  2. Very good suggestions here, you can also try some exercise before bed.

  3. Ahhh! Been there. The thing that worked best for me is to spend an hour before sleep relaxing in one way or another, take a long bath, veg out to your favorite show, read a book, whatever puts you at ease. Drink a hot cup of chamomile tea. That will help you relax and help you sleep. If nothing works, try taking some Excedrin PM or Tylenol PM, just don't take it all the time. Take one before going to sleep for a week and that should help get you back on schedule. After a week you shouldn't need it anymore. I know that isn't the most desirable way to go, but it works. Good luck.
