  1. nick jr. has party themes online

  2. $200 for one party? that's a lot!  Invite a clown or call your local zoo and see if they have traveling people - that would be awesome.   We have a traveling zoo here and he charges $125 an hour - that still gives you plenty of money left for cake and ice cream.

  3. Is this a party for a whole class?

If so, think about the themes that you have been doing in class!

    Some great ideas include:

-BOOK PARTIES- One idea that I LOVE that we did for the end of our "underwater" theme was using their favorite book "The Rainbow Fish" and basing it off of that with blue kool-aid, making the classroom look like it was underwater, a rainbow fish cake, fish shaped pizzas, "aquarium mix" snack mix, underwater games and more!

Think of other books that the preschoolers have been using or classics you know they will love!

-ANIMALS: Animals always go over well as a theme- Jungle animals, zoo animals, farm animals (I have A GREAT cake idea for farm animals if you want it)

-COOKING/ FOOD PYRAMID: You could use the opportunity to have a party like this one after a theme on nutrition or staying healthy... Have the kids help prepare things, make the classroom look like a huge kitchen...Use triangles as decorations

-DISCOVERY: You can take this idea in soooo many different directions.  Find a PLACE or THING that the children love doing and go from there.  I came up with an "Arachaeology" theme when I saw how much my kids loved the discovery bottles I had added to the science center.  I called it our "Can you dig it?" party.  We had a huge sandbox with items in it for the children to dig for, had a treat made out of graham crackers with things hidden in it for them to eat, had a scavenger hunt and an "uncover the item" craft.  **(For details on the discovery bottles or ideas I used here, contact me and check out my website: www.gems-for-the-teacher.com)**

-SPACE: Get plenty of those glow in the dark stars to put up all around the room as well as a model of the planets to hang.  Have the kids complete a "moonwalk" relay where they all have to walk like moon-men, Have meteor balls for lunch (meatballs or even as a dessert- oreo balls)

-THE PARK: Kids LOVE the park and all of the things they can observe and participate in...If you can, recreate a "park" setting in the classroom, complete with a "fountain" (could be a drawing or an actual tub where the kids can toss coins), frisbee tosses outside, park benches, they could make kites to fly, go on a nature walk, etc.!

-MUSEUM: Lots of kids are really into the museum theme right now (Night at the Museum), which is awesome to get them interested in history!  Recreate a museum with roped off areas (learning centers), put their artwork on display as in a museum, create a dino-bones craft and more!  You could even set up each learning center as a different center of a museum!

Classroom parties are always so much fun, but especially for preschoolers they really also need to be educational and offer opportunities for them to discover, explore and have fun!  Preschool themes also turn out really well on a larger scale if they are more "general" rather than too specific such as a particular cartoon character or something like that...

    Anyway, hope that helps!
