One of my friends is coming to stay at our farm (we grow vegetables and have hens for eggs etc., no meat!) for the weekend, hes a really nice guy, but he eats meat and he can be quite a fussy eater. I really do refuse to buy meat though- what can I cook for him?

  1. Make sure he is aware that you don't even buy meat.  Or ask him what are your favorite meat-less dishes to eat.  He might be surprised at how elaborate and tasty things can be without meat.  And if he has to have meat he can buy it for himself

  2. First remember it IS your home, so you get to decide the meals, but I understand you want him to enjoy the meals you cook for him.

Try some sort of tomato, mushroom and garlic pasta, Loyd Grossman pasta sauces are delicious.

Or maybe try something like lasagna.

    Hope this helps!

  3. Feed him how mock meats can

be even better that the real thing.

    Maybe he'll learn something?

Also, if he's a guest, tell him

he can eat what he's given

    or he can do without.

    Cheeky so and so.

  4. cook one of your chickens ...that way you dont have to buy

  5. one of your hens - then you wouldn't have to buy meat

  6. A nice cheesy potato bake.

  7. Veg lasagne always goes down a treat.  Use the 'meaty veg' like large mushrooms and aubergines.  I'm a meat eater and love this sort of veggie food.

  8. Relax, Sweetheart. He knows where he's going. Just cook as you normally would. He'll probably enjoy the change.

  9. quorn spaghetti  bolanese

  10. Just cook one of your favourite dishes, or from the foods he likes, pick a dish you normally make that you think he would enjoy, He'll most likely enjoy it and it will be different for him. Changes can be nice for a small amount of time. If not her has plenty of oter options, buy and cook for himself, restaurants, take outs.

  11. well just ask your friend.  my friend is a vegetarian and when I visit he asks and i dont mind trying recipes and stuff that are veg, but he also understands i wont be a vegetarian when we go out to eat etc.

but remember, you cant expect the rest of the world to bend over backwards to accommodate your lifestyle and then not do the same for others.  if you want to be accepted as a vegetarian, accept the fact that he wants to eat meat and accommodate it.

he knows your a vegetarian, so tell him if he wants something with meat he should bring it himself.

  12. go with things like beans, rice, potato's, if it is just for a couple of meals he shouldn't mind he should have know what he was getting into if he know you

  13. Cook any of the thousands of excellent dishes which, rather than being 'vegetarian', just don't happen to contain any meat.

Use as much fresh produce from your farm as possible.

  14. my advice is to cook a nice stew or something very filling with fresh vegetables. if  you don't usually cook with meat, then it's not worth running the risk of a horrid meal.

  15. Hello,

I'm not a big meat eater(chicken only) or vegetarian but If I were going to stay with someone that is vegetarian that's the food I would expect to eat.

Just keep the meals simple and maybe leave out/limit tofu/tempeh if you can since some people don't care for it.

    Breakfast

    Frittata

    Pancakes

    French toast

    Fruits

    Oatmeal/Cereal

    Lunch

    Salads

    Pizza

    Vegetable soup

    Peppers stuffed with couscous

    Dinner

    Eggplant Parm.

    Vegetable lasagna

    Mac & Cheese

    Grilled vegetables over rice

Serve dinner with crusty bread and butter

    Peppers stuffed with couscous

    6 ripe bell peppers

    1 tablespoon butter or margarine

    1 onion

    1 cup water

    1 teaspoon olive oil

    1/2 teaspoon salt

    1 cup instant couscous

    2 tablespoons raisins

    2 tablespoons chopped fresh mint

Slit one side of each pepper (don't remove stem). Remove core and seeds through slit.

    Chop onion, chop mint.

Sauté onion in butter until soft.

Bring water to a boil in a small pot. Add olive oil and salt, remove from heat. Add couscous, stir, cover, and let sit for 5 minutes. Stir sautéed onions, raisins, and mint into couscous.

Stuff each pepper with couscous through slits. Place on lightly oiled baking sheet. Bake at 400 degrees until tender, about 20 minutes. Serve.

    Makes 6 servings.

  16. Well, the thing is, it's not like he is against eating non-meat products, so it's kind of tough is what I'd say.

Cook a really nice tasty meat-free meal and who knows, you might convert him!

I'd say something cheesy so it has lots of flavour. Maybe a fritatta? Chuck some yummy veg in with it and serve with some new potatoes and steamed veg. Voila!

Or, you could cook with meat substitutes. Like a Quorn Lasagna or Bolognese or Sheperds pie.

    Good luck x

  17. Mushroom stroganoff, cheese souffle, any number of pasta dishes, Salad Nicoise (with out the tuna) as a meat eater I found most of the recipes in Cranks perfectly appetising.

  18. either cook one of your chickens or make like a salad

  19. give him fake meats.

    they taste the same :D

  20. I have no idea what he likes so that's hard to answer.  Ask him what else he eats.  I am sure he eats more than just meat.

  21. I'd phone him and ask him what he fancies with what you are prepared to cook.

Or I'd get a take out.

I wouldn't recommend fake meats. I know a couple of meateaters who seem to object to them on principle. Also if you're not used to eating soya or quorn it can be quite difficult to digest.

  22. make pizza, or pasta with a tomao and basil sauce

Take him out 4 lunch.. and tea...and lunch...and tea...erm yeah i see the problem with that

  23. A good way of introducing delicious, wholesome vegetarian food to an omni(vore) is to cook something that everybody knows and loves, but with a stylish veggie twist. For example, you could cook chilli using TVP, pumpkin or beans (below, I have added a link for a great pumpkin chilli; it's hearty, wholesome and delicious!) You could also have a barbecue, where you can grill some delicious vegetables, tofu, tempeh, even fruit! Vegetarian barbecues can be great fun for non-vegetarians!

  24. Make a veg. stew with some yummy breads and butter.  That will fill him up.  Good luck.

  25. Teach him!

  26. I think he can survive on your diet for the weekend.  If he desires meat, he can go out.  Besides, if you haven't prepared meat in a while, you're not going to be very good at it.

Tell him he looked like he needed a detox anyway.

  27. You should still cook him things you like to eat so he can get a little taste of your life. Or he could just cook for himself!

  28. I would do a frittata (like a big omlette) with your lovely fresh eggs and vegetable. I am veggie and have made these for  meat eating friends and they always get the thumbs up x

If all else fails just, ask him what he would like! im sure he is going to see you not to critique your menu x
