Question:

Having a talk with my mother?

I'm 14 years old, turning 15 in January. I'm entering as a freshmen in high school. My mom seems so strict to the thought of me hanging out with guys, or me hanging out with people at all. She was raised in a strict household where she was home all day, and she is applying that to me. I asked to speak with her today at the lake.

I want to explain to her, that I want to have some fun this summer. And when I hang out with the people I do, all we basically do is just walk around, talk, chill. And I'm thinking of explaining what I do when I hang out with my girlfriends, is the same process when I hang out with dudes.

Like today, two of my guy friends (one that i like) barged into my house. And it was fine, but she called them disrespectful, and she called them hooligans. And she seems so suspicious these days.

I'm a pretty responsible girl, and I would just like to be able to leave my house sometimes, and just HANG OUT with people.

So at the lake, what do I say so she won't get easily offended, or mad, or defensive, or angry? I really want to hang out with themm.

Ideas? Tips? Thanks.

  1. I would tell her that she can trust you and you have no interest in having s*x or partying and I would ask her if you couold start out by bringing a few friends to your house to meet her so she can get used to them and the idea of you having a social life.

  2. Your mom was right about the guys being disrespectful in barging into her home like that.  I'm sorry but your mom is somewhat right.  She knows what HS guys are like, she's been there done that.  She's being protective and doesn't want you hanging out with guys alone.  Maybe if you had a few girlfriends tag along too.  Say to mom "hey I'm going to the lake with Chrissy, Lisa, Bill and Chad".  Maybe she would be alright with that.  Good luck.  I know how hard it is to talk to moms about stuff like that.  I never could.  I hope when my daughter is your age, she'll feel comfortable talking to me about such things.

  3. Just be chill and dont talk back. Let her finish her sentances and be responsible. Good luck!

  4. I don't think it's that she's suspicious, per se, but rather that she's worried about you hanging out by yourself with only boys.  You have to understand that's it's really tough to be a mum today and mum's always worry about their kids.  It's only natural.  We worry.  Can your girlfriends and you and the fellows all hang out together and not have it just you alone with some guys?  That may help your mum feel a little more secure about the whole scene.  Could you invite them all over to your house and have a movie night or games night or something so that your mum can meet your friends?  You should also always have a cell phone with you just to be safe if your mum does happen to let you go out with your girlfriends.  The guys were wrong for barging into your house without being courteous enough to ask your mum first if they could come over.  She does have the right to be mad about that.  I'm speaking from a mum point of view in this post.  I wish you the very best when you talk to your mum.  Communication is so important between mums and their kids.

  5. Hey =]

many reasons that she don't like you hanging out is maybe she don't have any trust or she wants to meet the people you're hanging out. She wants to make sure that your'e safe and she have been raised in a strict family and i guess she wants to carry that on but just talk to her and say i think im old enough, responsible, and mature enough to hang out with my friends. Maybe if you want you could make your mom meet your friend even though it would be kinda eerie =].

  6. You should just talk like an adult and show her that you are mature. Explain nicely that you are a smart girl and you make good decisions about who you hang out with and what you do while you are hanging out with them. Make sure you show her that you are a responsible young adult, not a bratty kid.
