I have a 2002 grand prix gt and when driving down the highway it kicksback or bucks is the easiest way to describe it. Usually it does it 3 times in a row or at different times. Not sure what it could be but if someone has suggestions of what it could be I'd like to hear it.

  1. It could be any number of reasons that this is happening.  Bad gas will cause this to happen.  Did you buy gas at a new (to you) station?  Spark plugs might need replacing.  Oil filter and or air filter could need replacing.  Your best bet is to take it to a mechanic and have them check it out.  Get an estimate of what needs done and how much it will cost you.  Make sure you are getting oil changes done regularly (every 3,000 miles is recommended - especially for city driving).  It sounds like your car is suffering from neglect. Preventative maintenance is cheaper than waiting till the car is damaged.  Each part affects others and you could have costly repairs.  Don't wait, best to have looked at immediately.

  2. Check for trouble codes with a scanner. It could also be the overdrive solenoid.

  3.   There is a multitude of problems that could be causing your symptom.Taking wild guesses at what it "might be" is a total waste of time.  Take your car to a profesional repair facility and have it diagnosed. Find a shop that you like and stick with them. If you become suspicious of what the repair facility is telling you get a second opinion. Be careful on these forums, bad information can make your situation more painful.

Secondly, relax. Cars break all the time. It's the nature of the beast. Doesn't matter what you buy it's only a matter of time and you will have to repair something. Cars are complex pieces of machinery exposed to extreme enviroments (especialy wisconsin lol).
