I really want to learn how to play an instrument. I am torn between all of these, how do/did you decide which instrument to play?

Not in order..

1: Oboe

2: Bassoon

3: Drums

4: Alto Sax

5: Cello

6: Trombone

7: Trumpet

And possibly piano!

  1. well oboe, bassoon, sax are reed instruments so thats something to consider. trumpet and trombone well those can be harder for some. My best advice and this is what the band/orchestra director that I work with does is lets the students play one from each family (brass and woodwind) to see if there is one that feels easier to play then another. So ask him/her to do that with you.

  2. If you have long fingers it is better to go with Piano. If you have a steady hand go with Cello. If you are calm and easy going go with oboe. If you are happy and looking for pouting lips go with the trumpet. If you like to have fun and have too much energy go with the drums. If you are strong and interesting go with the Alto Sax. the bassoon if you don't know how to pronounce baboon. I would go with the Trombone if you think you are not going to play any of the others...

  3. it's best to go with piano..once u learn the basics its so easy so pick up another instrument if you want. but it doesnt really matter between any of these instruments exept for oboe and bassoon, dont try to play these outright without any other musical training. its best to play a woodwind instrument eg flute sax clarinet before trying oboe or bassoon. :)

    good luck.

  4. it's always a good idea to play piano first. than it will be easier to learn how to play any other instrument.

  5. My preference:

    1. Alto sax

    2. Oboe

    3. Bassoon

    4. Piano

    5. Cello

    6. Trombone

    7. Drums

    8. Trumpet

EDIT: I agree with another poster - piano would be the best to start on; it makes it easy to read music and such.

  6. even though this is ot in your list, violin can be really amazing. You can pretty much do any style or genre of music on violin..just a thought

  7. Up until now I've only played one instrument at a time until I got sick of it/found another instrument. I started with flute, then ukulele, and now guitar (but I played flute in band and I was also playing guitar on the side). But now it's just mainly guitar.

You can pick up two instruments if you want. There's no problem with that.

  8. I decided to play piano because I love to sing and could play piano to my songs. Choose the one that shows more of who you are in it? If you get what I mean. For example, the trumpet makes a really classic sound, while the drums make a much more modern sound, mostly. So if you are more of a classical than modern person, you would choose trumpet, if it's the other way round, you would choose drums.

  9. Not in order..

    1: Oboe

    2: Bassoon

    3: Drums

    4: Alto Sax

    5: Cello

    6: Trombone

    7: Trumpet

    And possibly piano!

    If you like Coldplay Songs..

id encourage you to play Piano..

of you like classical music more than modern music... id encourage you to learn the rest.

if you like rock and you only like banging ur head up and down.. and keeping track of the beats... learn the drums..
