Fame isn't important but it's good to have some friends.

Fame isn't really important anywhere in life.  As long as you have a good group of friends, that's all you need to get you through high school.

but it may keep you more company when you need them,

or when you need help, you have many people to ask

its good to network and have connections, because you'll need them in the real world =]
