Question:

Having issues using Windows XP SP1 in my new build....?

I just put the finishing touches on my new build and installed Windows XP SP1 using a "Re-install" disk that came with my old dell dimension.

The install went fine and it let me set the system Time/Date and setup my user accounts and all that. However, the problem is as soon as it boots up and i sign into my account it shows my desktop (currently default) for about 5-7 seconds. Then it pops up the "Report an error" window saying "This system has recovered from a serious error.... blah blah blah."

As soon as you go to move the mouse or hit enter after that window pops up .... BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH. The error message it then gives me is "Please make sure any recently installed hardware/software is properly installed."

I'm at a total loss at this point because its a new build and its ALL new hardware.... If anyone has had a similar problem please let me know how you resolved it.

And before anyone says anything... I know all the hardware is compatible and properly "physically" installed because i can see it all in the BIOS options.

  1. the issue with your computer is coming from the drivers being used from your older Dell reinstall disk.  You used a install disk that was supposed to be for a different machine.  Boot in safemode, check which drivers did not install correctly and reinstall them
