Having kids at a younger age, are you able to lose the weight easier?

Ok, I had my daughter at 19. I went from 170 lbs. (9 months pregnant with a 7 lb. 6 oz. baby) to 156 lbs. right after giving birth. Nine months later, I weigh 119 lbs. Pre-pregnancy I was 126 lbs. I didn't diet, I just ate less because I'm not as hungry as I was during my pregnancy.

I know women who are older(late 30's-late 40's) who had 3 or 4 kids who never lost the weight from having kids years ago. I'm not sure why they couldn't lose all the weight. The age differences are several years apart, so they had the time to lose the weight.

So is it easier to lose pregnancy pounds if you're younger? And are you supposed to weigh more after your pregnancy, or is it normal to weigh less than before?

  1. I would think so, but I have inlaws who were 18-23 when they first got pregnant, and NEVER lost the weight. My mother was also young when she had me, and just got back down to her pre-pregnancy weight within the past 3 years.

I think it really just depends on your body, although being younger would help give you the extra boost.

  2. Its definitely easier to lose the weight at a younger age and breastfeeding makes this even more true. I'm 17 and a breastfeeding mom and I weigh less than I did prepregnancy and my son is only 4 months old. I still eat a lot too!

  3. It depends on the person.  I had my first at 28 and went right back into a size 5 junior in 2 months.  I had my 2nd at 33 and it took about 6 months to lose the weight I gained and get back into shape. The more you gain..the harder it is to take off.

  4. yes because your body can recoup better at a younger age. i was 21 when i found out i was pregnant. i went from 133 to 196. after i finished breast feeding 3 months later i was back down to 139.
