Having my tubes tied after baby 3?

I've never had surgery before so am very nervous. We are sure we don't want anymore kids and this is what we want to do but can anyone tell me what might happen when I go in for surgery?

  1. It is easiest to have the surgery right after giving birth.

  2. I'm having baby number 4, and my husband will get a vasectomy, soon... Much safer, less expensive,---and less invasive---than a tubal.

  3. I had mine tied 7 weeks ago immediately after my 2nd child was born.

The surgery was very simple and short.  In my case, they made an incision right under my belly button that is maybe an inch and a half long.  I have a very sensitive belly button so the incision being near it gave me fits while it healed, but other than being tender for maybe a week it was a breeze!  So far I've not had any problems. You just won't be able to sleep on your tummy quite yet!  And if you have a long baby, sometimes burping them on your shoulder with their toes hanging near the incision is tender but easily solved by burping baby on your lap.  Overall it was easy and I'm still happy I had it done!  A friend had hers done at her 6 week checkup and she believes I had it easier by doing mine immediately after my baby was born.
