  1. You need to drop your outside hand so you can stretch the ski out farther away from the boat. That way you don't get so close to the boat and let the slack out. Turn as hard and as fast as you can.

To get a big tail you need to cut really hard. Lean way back on your cuts and turns, your inside shoulder should be inches from the water. Seeing as you just started you probably do not have the strength to do this, work at it for a while and you should be able to get horizontal.

  2. the reason you're getting slack is because you're coming into the turn too fast. after you cross the 2nd wake start shifting your weight forward which will slow the ski down. then you roll the ski on its edge and let it carve. you don't want to move your hands to adjust the rope and rid the slack. you want no slack to begin with. nothing looks worse than raising your hand over your head or out to the side to tighten up your line. the water comes from the angle of the ski so if you slow the ski properly and then roll it on edge it will start to spray. the deeper the ski ni the water, the higher the spray. really though, don't just be the guy out there trying for a big spray. if you don't have technique before the spray and after the spray you'll just look ridiculous.
