I live in NY and my FAFSA forms weren't right at first, but now I have received an email saying they were corrected and processed. I just called the college Financial aid lady (she knows my family) Of course she didn't pick up so I'm in the dark about it. I had gotten a scholarship from my high school to go to this college, but was never notified, and was told I would be. The high school wont call me back either. Ive called both several times and nothing. Now I have an email about TAP? I was hoping anyone could give me advice on what types of Grants are good, what scholarships I should look into, etc. I am curious about this TAP (Tuition Assistance Program) thing, and does anyone know how Pell Grants work? I have done some research but I don't get it. Please help me, I'm getting confused. Thank you.

  1. Next year just make sure you start working on your fafsa in January after you get your taxes and then look on your schools website for any scholarships available like the stars website and then apply to all of them. Then the next step is to call them at least 4 times a week and ask them your status. Don't be scared to get rude if you have to. And also write down dates that you turn in paperwork so when they tell you that you turned in the papers on the 14 th of july and thats past the deadline you could say no, i turned it in on ......... But for this year the only thing you could do is keep calling and going down to the financial aid office. It sucks but it will be worth it. Good luck i go through the same thing!

  2. I would agree with the poster.  You have to go to your financial aid office and if you have to sit all day until you get answers, it is worth it. Take any letters that you've received from them and they will help you make sense of it.  I remember a couple of times I didn't get all of my financial aid docs info processed in time, and my school helped me take out a small emergency loan until my financial aid did come through.  I'm also sure for the FAFSA there should be a # that you can call for status or create an online account.
