Having problems with itunes and my ipod nano please help!?

I have a ipod nano 1GB shuffle 2nd gen.(I think). I downloaded itunes but my ipod does not show up under devices. "Devices" isn't even an option on the left hand side of my itunes page. I have tried all my usb ports, removing and redownloading itunes. It shows up in windows but not itunes. I have a dell desktop. I have no idea. Please help!

try to update or re-install your usb drivers(how:http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1372) or re register .dll files(how:http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1372)....

it usually happens to me a lot.

When you re-downloaded itunes did it say to register it?

make sure your usb drives are active
