Having problems with my car stereo.?

Just hooked up my stereo and it plays good for a bit then it resets itself. Also for some reason I can't pick up any stations on it and I have power going to my antenna,but if I unplug my antenna I have no power to the stereo. Can anyone help with this?

  1. sounds like a grounding problem.

    you mentioned that whenever you unplug your antenna you have no power to your stereo. the stereo uses your antenna as its ground. check your ground wire from the stereo.


  2. Not sure about the antenna thing, but go back and make sure all your constant hot and ignition hot wires have good connections. Use a bug to test their voltages at the connection, too.

    The radio is reseting itself because the constant power wire has a bad connection, most likely.

  3. it sounds to me that you have a bare wire some where in your dash that occasionally touches metal and is causing it to short
