Question:

Having problems with my new Wireless N router..?

Three months ago I purchase a brand new Vaio Laptop and a new Lynksys N router. I take the laptop back and forth to work where there is an older Lynksys G router at work.

I am able to connect to the web at both locations but when connecting at home I have to type in the IP Address and DNS server info manually to make it work. If that info is not in there it wont work at all. To connect at the office I have to change the settings to obtain IP and DNS automatically. That is the way it should be.

To make a long story short my neighbors are able to use my router at home from their appartment without having to manually type in anything. This leads me to believe that my computer is the issue??? I run Windows Vista and have a Sony Vaio Laptop. Please help

  1. if u dont want neighbours usin it use wpa security and for u make sure dchp is enabled on the router

  2. You probably do have something set up wrong - like a fixed IP for work that's no good on the router at home.  The simplest fix, IMO, is to download NetSetMan.  then you just click on Office or Home or whatever configuration you have (I use 4, home, office, my sister-in-law's house and my niece's house - they're all different, the printer names are different, etc.)

The other solution is to actually figure out what's wrong.  (Maybe the IT people at work can help?)
