Having trouble connecting to the internet?

okay so I have a modem and a linksys router. my younger sister installed the modem and connected to the desktop computer. i came home and connected the router to the modem in order to get an internet connection on my laptop. when the router is connected to the modem, only my laptop gets an internet connection. how do i fix it so that both the laptop and desktop computer get internet access?

the desktop computer doesn't have a wireless card so it has to be connected through a wire
