  1. If you have a mini dv (cassette) camcorder….

Your dv camcorder needs a firewire connection (ieee 1394) in order to download video, your PC probably did not come with a firewire port, so you will have to buy one and install it, since most computers (except possibly brand new) don't come with a firewire port, your camcorder did not come with a firewire cord so you have to purchase a cord too. Your camcorder did come with a USB cord and that is used for downloading stills from your camcorder.

  2. For further information, tutorials, software , and a manual. Visit the Sony support site! See the link below>>>

  3. We don't know which cord you are trying to use, but your digital 8 camcorder will have a DV port. This will connect to the firewire port of your computer with a fire wire cable. Firewire, IEEE1394 and i.Link are all the same thing. A firewire cable was not included in the box. Read your manual. It will have something that says the iLink cable is "optional" or "commercially available".

If your computer does not have a firewire port, they are typically cheap and easy to add.

USB will not work. A firewire to USB converter will not work.
