Having trouble sleeping - What's wrong?

I have soooo much trouble sleeping. No matter how tired I am, I just can't fall asleep at night till about 2-3 am, even later sometimes and it's horrible because I have trouble getting up the next morning. Right now, it's alright since it's summer but during school days, this bothers me so much. The thing is that I can't sleep till about 2-3 am each night, and then I have to get up early. Doing this makes me even more tired and I feel tired and yawn a lot during the day... but I still can't sleep when night time comes again? Why is that? Despite how tired I am, I just can't fall asleep!

  1. Sleeping tabs are great short term and may help your body get back into a routine but people can become too dependant on them plus you're young so your GP may not want to prescribe them.  Here are some herbal alternatives - L Trytophan and B-Complex both help to raise serotonin levels&promote sleep.  Magnesium may prove beneficial in reducing nervous irritability&muscular tension therefore aiding the relief of insomnia.  Valerian root makes getting to sleep easier and increases deep sleep.  Californian Poppy has been used as a sedative for adults&children.  All these can be found in any health store and some pharmacies.

  2. you are anxious

  3. I'm guessing that you're a young adult.  If so, biology is working against you - teens' circadian rhythms are skewed toward living at night.

    What you can do:

Eliminate caffeine from your diet completely.

    Make dinner a small meal.

Do nothing else in your room except relaxing and studying.

Make sure your room is dark and quiet at night.

Take a Tylenol before going to bed.

Start 'winding down' an hour before bedtime so you're not all keyed up when you hit the pillow.

Believe it or not, a teddy bear can help.  Soft music, too.

  4. warm milk + laxatives = success.

search youtube for "pennyroyal tea" and listen to it.
