Having trouble sleeping in 3rd trimester?

Hello! This has been such a blessed pregnancy journey, and I've tried my best not to complain...here comes the BUT...ladies, I dread bedtime! It isn't that I can't fall asleep, it's finding a comfortable position! I'm sleeping on my left side, (no to back sleeping, and baby makes it known he doesn't like me to sleep on right side), with pillows surrounding me...but only for 3 hours before I've got to sit in the living room on the recliner, and wake up to walk around...HELP! How are you (or how did you) sleeping these days in your 3rd trimester?

  1. I got through this with 5 or 6 pillows carefully arranged to support my belly, to keep my knees from hitting eachother, and to keep my arms from falling asleep. It would seem that I would have to pee the VERY moment I felt even close to comfortable. I would then have to start the pillow arrangement ritual all over again. My poor husband had to sleep on a third of the bed to leave me room for flopping and sprawling. When I would finally get up to go sit in the recliner in the middle of the night, I was able to rest a while longer, and my husband got to be comfortable. I personally think this is nature's way of getting you used to being woken up repeatedly at night. LOL It'll all be over soon. Hang in there! And congrats on your new baby!

  2. I am one of the unlucky ones when it comes to sleep. I already had restless leg syndrome before I got pregnant and now its MUCH WORSE. there's a lot of times when I either can't fall asleep or I wake up with charlie horses. its horrible

  3. I did the same.  I slept on my side with pillows everywhere.  I woke up a lot and felt exhausted during the day.  You could try sleeping in the recliner.  Or just try taking a nap during the day, so you won't feel so tired.

    God Bless

  4. I feel for you hun! That is the most uncomfortable time in the pregnancy (atleast it was for me!) I couldn't find a comfy position, I'd toss and turn, get up, sit down, try to sleep in a recliner, laid on the couch...it seemed like I didn't sleep but a couple hours at a time. Best of luck!!!

  5. Nothing works.  I think of it as your body preparing you for when the baby is here.  Sometimes it helps to read for a bit or take a bath before bed, but the truth of the matter is, at this point, we're pretty big and there's not much we can do to get comfortable.

  6. Unfortunately, trying to get comfortable enough to sleep when you're big and pregnant is near impossible. I'm 37 weeks now and although I am usually able to get in a comfortable (either one of my sides) I still wake up constantly. I either have to pee or I wake up covered in sweat.

I think having difficulty sleeping is just part of the last trimester of pregnancy. Think of it this way: it's preparing you for taking care of a newborn who wakes up every 2-3 hours.

  7. I have had problems sleeping due to comfort or just having to use the bathroom since i was around 22 weeks...its normal for me in pregnancy and this is my 9th and every child same thing..i just try to take as many nap outs in a day as I can and I always look at the positive side of things so I keep in mind it wont last forever and look what we have at the end...a beautiful baby and that being the payoff is what helps me...if you are having bachakes like i get have hubby give you a back massage that always helps me too..good luck and congrats

  8. I have heard this complaint from a lot of my pregnant friends and family.  They all say lots of pillows help some.  Some would nap during the day if possible.  Maybe try that.  I honestly think it is mother natures way of preparing a woman for motherhood. I mean you will be up every 2-3 hours with the baby.  Not sure if their is any truth to that theory or not...LOL!!!

I did want to tell you best wishes and that you are almost there!!!

  9. My suggestion would be to laydown for about an hour after you do dinner and everything. This will wake up the baby and he can have his playtime and wear himself out prior to the point in the evening when you are ready to sleep. Baby is lulled all day long by your movement, when you are still this wakes him. I think you'll find you can sleep on your right side as long as he is already tired and asleep. Hope this works!
