Havre de Grace and Joyful Victory work in tandem, as Havre de Grace gets pointed toward the New Orleans Ladies Stakes

Havre de Grace pulled off another scintillating work, as the reigning Horse of the Year inch closer to her 2012 debut in the New Orleans Ladies Stakes at Fairgrounds race course on 17 March, 2012, at about 1 1/16 miles against 4-year-old and above fillies
and mares.
Fox Hill Farms’ Havre de Grace turned in another sharp work of six furlongs on 5 March, 2012, in 1 minute and 11 2/5 seconds.
The Kentucky bred 5-year-old mare is the daughter of Saint Liam, out of mare Easter Bunnette by Carson City, and she wasn’t alone in her recent work as the champion mare worked alongside her multiple stakes winning stable mate, Joyful Victory.
The 4-year-old Tapit Filly is pointed toward the Grade 3 Azeri Stakes also held on 17 March, 2012, at Oaklawn Park going over a distance of 1 1/16 miles on dirt against 4-year-old and above fillies.
Out of mare Wild Lucy Black by Wild Again, Joyful Victory was timed for 5 furlongs as the filly clocked the distance in 58 2/5 seconds.
“They both had terrific, yet easy works,” Fox Hill owner Rick Porter said. “Joyful went five-eighths and Havre de Grace went on another eighth by herself. Joyful galloped out six furlongs in 1:12 1/5. Havre de Grace slowed down a little when Joyful dropped
off a bit. We didn’t get the time of the mile gallop out on Havre de Grace. Jen (Brasser), Havre de Grace’s regular rider, came back and told Larry (trainer Jones) she was sorry that she didn’t think she went fast enough. That just proves how easy she does
it. She is so deceiving when she is breezing.”
Trainer Larry Jones was confident that both his female runners are ready to kick start their 2012 campaign, as both runners will stretch their legs this Monday.
The races are held at St Patrick’s Day, and Havre de Grace prior to her most recent work turned in back to back drill of five furlongs.
She timed 59 4/5 seconds once and covered five furlongs in 59 seconds flat in her next outing, and she has been brilliant at Fair Grounds so far where she is aiming to make her comeback.
