Havre de Grace to gallop not breeze before the Woodward Stakes  courtesy Irene Hurricane
The 4-year-old Larry Jones trained filly, Havre de Grace was unable to turn in her scheduled workout at Delaware Park on 29 August ahead of the all important Grade 1 Woodward Stakes at Saratoga race course, because of Irene Hurricane, the track was closed
down for any training.
The cancelled training session prompted trainer Larry Jones to say that ahead of the 1 1/8 mile test against the males, the filly will go on to gallop before her first ever start against the male horses.
It would’ve been awesome for the filly to have turned in a four or five furlong breeze before the race, but her connections and Havre de Grace have to be content with a little bit of galloping which is likely to be her only exercise before the race.
There was no training at Delaware Park on 29 August in the wake of Irene Hurricane, which leave Larry Jones uncertain whether his filly will get the ground to train the next day or not, but when asked the trainer was unsure of her workout routine as she
gets shipped to Saratoga the next day.
The daughter of Saint Liam, out of Easter Bunnette by Carson City, Havre de Grace was expected to be where Blind Luck is, because Havre de Grace might have some score to settle with her arch rival after the Grade 2 Delaware Handicap.
After her front running heroics, Have de Grace was shot down by Blind Luck after her rampant late surge, defeating Havre de Grace on her own turf by a nose.
Blind Luck romped past at Delaware Park on 16 July, 2011 over a distance of 1 ¼ miles on dirt, and also is not leading the raging battle with 4 wins to 2.
Havre de Grace started the season strongly with 3 graded stakes wins on the trot, the most prominent one of them all was the Grade 1 Apple Blossom Stakes held at Oaklawn Park on 15 April, 2011 on 1 1/16 miles on dirt.
It is clear that her connections are looking for the Horse of the Year title by entering the filly with the males, and if they are successful, Blind Luck would have to come up with something of that stature as well.
