Havre de Grace to start in the Woodward Stakes at Saratoga on 2 September
The much awaited clash between Havre de Grace and Blind Luck has to wait another day, because the Rick Porter owned filly will definitely make her next start at Saratoga in the $750,000 Grade 1 Woodward Stakes, held on 2 September.
It is a long shot that the California based Blind Luck will head to face the males in the Woodward Stakes, highly unlikely that trainer Jerry Hollendorfer ships his star filly to Saratoga.
Blind Luck is also looking to face males in her next start at Del Mar, because that is where the filly will be staying for the Grade 1 Pacific Classic on 28 August, 2011.
Earlier in the week, Rick Porter revealed that he is inclined towards running his filly in the Woodward Stakes. The shift from the Grade 1 Personal Ensign means would mean delaying a rematch with arch rival Blind Luck, who is edging Havre de Grace with 4
wins to 2 head to head.
Blind Luck is the another top North American filly, who is trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, and she will mark her next start in either the $300,000 Grade 1 Personal Ensign at Saratoga or the $1million Grade 1 Pacific Classic at Del Mar on 28 August.
Jerry Hollendorfer is eyeing a third possible start for Blind Luck, and that could take her to Monmouth Park for the $250,000 Molly Pitcher also on 28 August.
It is expected in the next week that Jerry Hollendorfer will lift the fog regarding Blind Luck’s future, and it will probably be clear where the filly will start after 21 August.
Havre de Grace’s connections were pretty sure why they wanted to face the males before the go in for the Breeders’ Cup. The champion filly has still two races to go before the Breeders’ Cup this fall, and it looks like they are aiming for the Horse of the
Year title.
If they are, they have to face males along the way at some point, and this is perfect for the filly. She will be in shape for the Breeders’ Cup in time after the Woodward Stakes.
