  1. I have been to Bermuda twice by cruise ship and have also been to Hawaii 5 times.  Hawaii is definitely the prettier and has much more to do and see.

    Here's the story on Bermuda.

Bermuda has some of the best beaches anywhere; pink sand beaches that you can easily find a deserted spot on. In my two visit it seemed to me that the majority of the people visiting the island were those on the two or three cruise ships which docked there during my stay. There are a few hotels in the town of Hamilton and about a dozen other properties/beach hotels, but they are nice. There are NO slums and ghettos in Bermuda like you may see in the Caribbean islands. All of the houses are well maintained and painted in pastel colors. All of the public beaches are great. If you go there you want to be sure to go to Elbow Beach and Long Bay Beach. I don't know if you plan to fly there and stay or take a cruise there but Royal Caribbean, NCL and  Holland America have cruise to Bermuda from many cities on the each coast. When you cruise there its less expensive than flying and staying in a hotel because, you stay and eat on the ship. You would probably want to eat on ship anyway because meals (and everything else) are expensive since everything has to be imported.

A five, six, or seven day cruise to Bermuda is plenty enough time to see and enjoy everything there. There is not a lot to do in Bermuda other than water sports and golf. There are two main towns Hamilton, the largest (where most cruise ships dock for at least a day) and St George (also a port stop) which is like a small town and has just a few shops. The third place ships may dock while there is The Kings Dockyard.. The Dockyard is on the far end of the 22 mile long island and has a small mall with shops and a museum. The Crystal Cave and Fantasy Caves are worth visiting as a tour, or on your own. I also visited one of the lighthouses and you can visit one of the many forts on the island like Fort St Catherine if you like that type activity.

In the town of Hamilton we took a walking tour which took us to the Cathedral of the Most Holy, a maritime museum and a nice garden/park a few blocks from the port. There is shopping in Hamilton and restaurants, but not much else. The best way to get around in Bermuda is to buy a transportation pass (may be able to get it on ship) which will let you take the buses, and the ferry, all over the island. There is a big bus depot just a couple blocks from where ships dock in the town of Hamilton. You can take the buses to the beach, they are not very far away and easy to get to from the bus stop. You want to go to Elbow Beach and Long Bay Beach, both open to the public. If you want to snorkel, the Tobacco Bay Beach near the town of St George is great, and its walking distance (about 3/4 mile from town), or you can take a bus near there and walk.

The POSITIVES for Bermuda are its pretty, very nice beaches, its easy to get around, and quiet its safe.

The NEGATIVES are its expensive to stay there and to eat except on a cruise, there is not a lot to do except beach and golf, its not a place where you can go clubbing, the beaches are beautiful but they don't typically have the rental things like jet ski and para-sail.

Here's the story on Hawaii.  There are five main Hawaiian islands that you can visit when you go there, Oahu (Honolulu & Waikiki Beach), the big island of Hawaii, Maui, Kauai, and Lanai.

The top things to do in Hawaii are:

    1. Oahu Island:   Go to Pearl Harbor to see history at the US Arizona Memorial. You can drive or take the bus there; no need to book a tour. But you need to go early because the site is popular and the wait for your free tour can be about an hour.  In Waikiki you can browse around the International Market across from Waikiki Beach, go on a sunset dinner cruise on Waikiki bay, try an outrigger canoe ride on Waikiki, go for a sail on a catamaran on Waikiki Bay, or visit Diamond Head park.  If you like to snorkel go to Hanauma Bay which has perfect flap water for snorkeling on a reef.

    2. Oahu Island:  If you are on the island of Oahu go to the other side of the island to see the great deserted beaches (get a rental car for a day or two).  Take highway 99 north toward Waimea and stop at the Dole pineapple plantation for a tour.

    3.  Oahu Island:  The Polynesian Cultural Center is a great place to learn about authentic Hawaiian life.   You can buy tickets to tour the place, and another type ticket that allows you to stay for the evening luau.

    4. Maui Island: If you go to Maui, you gotta do the downhill bike ride. I don't recommend the sunrise one because you have to get up at 3:00 AM to get started up the mountain and its cold up there that early. If you are a romantic do it, but otherwise no. There are different bike companies and some don't take you all the way to the top, and some don't guide you back down. You can come down by yourself, there's only one road with just a little traffic, but if you are squeamish about riding in the street, a company that accompanies you down will help watch the traffic for you. I have been twice and prefer Maui Downhill to the others. These companies have web sites They will pick you up at your hotel, take you to their shop to pick out a wet-suit (for the cold and mist/rain shower maybe) and gloves and helmet; then take you up the mountain; then follow your group down so they can block traffic for your ride; then afterwards take you back to your hotel. Expect this activity to take 75-80% or more of the day.

    5.  Maui Island:  The Road to Hana is a great drive (you need a rental car). It’s a 45 mile winding road that takes 4 hours to drive.  Its like driving through the jungle; has a bunch of one lane bridges. Then drive past Hana to the Seven-Pools attraction and go for a swim.  This will be your best chance to dive into a waterfall.

    6.  Big Island of Hawaii: go to the Volcano National Park. Also go see Akaka Falls.   Its beautiful but you cannot go jump in or swim in it.   If you like horseback riding, go to the Parker Ranch and go for a guided ride.  Drive to the south end of the island and see a black sand beach.

If you want to get away from people and activities go to Kauai and Lanai.  Those islands do not have as many hotels and people but do have beautiful scenery and good sports activities.

The POSITIVES  for Hawaii are its beautiful and has some of the prettiest beaches in the world.  It has more culture than many travel destinations; you get to experience the Hawaiian life style and culture.  There is NOTHING comparable to this in Bermuda.  It has unique foods and you can experience a luau.  It has a much bigger variety of beach and ocean related activities than Bermuda.  You can also cruise around the Hawaiian islands on Norwegian Cruise line or cruise to and from Hawaii on a few other cruise lines like Royal Caribbean and Carnival.

The NEGATIVES for Hawaii are its a very long plane ride from just about anywhere and its probably going to be a much more expensive plan ride than in the past.  Its expensive in Hawaii for hotels and to an extent for food.  But really no more expensive than Bermuda.
